The GOES-R Ground Segment Project (GSP) is a joint NOAA/NASA mission to develop, sustain and maintain the satellite ground system for NOAA's flagship Geostationary Weather Satellites.  The system is currently developed and deployed operating two satellites with an additional two still to be launched.  The next big challenge for the GSP will be to oversee the technical refresh of this Ground System to replace IBM blade servers with different 1U x86 servers while making small architectural improvements to ease future maintenance, sustainment and operations.

The Ground Segment Systems Engineer will join the GOES-R Data Operations Support and Test (DOST) team supporting GOES-R weather satellite operations and maintenance.  The Engineer will work full time at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) facility located in Suitland, MD.  The Engineer would work with other DOST team members to gain familiarization with the GOES-R Ground Data Operations (DO) system capabilities, products, and gain knowledge and hands-on experience and operation of the Product Generation (PG) and Product Distribution (PD) systems.  DOST systems engineers provide Tier-2 and Tier-3 engineering support to the NOAA Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO) 24x7 operations team.  This support includes, but is not limited to, creating procedures, providing training, special operations, system performance monitoring, complex anomaly troubleshooting and recovery, DO software/hardware Installation, Test and Checkout (ITCO) support.
