The GOES-R Ground Segment Project (GSP) is a joint NOAA/NASA mission to develop, sustain and maintain the satellite ground system for NOAA's flagship Geostationary Weather Satellites. The system is currently developed and deployed operating two satellites with an additional two still to be launched. The next big challenge for the GSP will be to oversee the technical refresh of this Ground System to replace IBM blade servers with different 1U x86 servers while making small architectural improvements to ease future maintenance, sustainment and operations.
The Ground Segment Software Engineer will join the GOES-R Ground Segment supporting a team of engineers and operations personnel in the areas of research, development, and deployment of tools and spacecraft and aircraft systems in support of NASA’s space, flight, test, and ground missions. Other key areas of support include systems architecture and design, system test and verification, system integration, security planning and network management.
The primary place of performance is Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, with occasional local travel to the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, MD, and other travel to the development contractor site in Melbourne, FL.
