Noblis' life sciences and bioinformatics practice are focused on advanced biological research, including synthetic biology research, molecular biology signatures, and detection methods, for the national security domain. This role will provide our DoD customer with the world's best radiation bioeffects research, model-driven science-based exposure standards, and applied knowledge allowing maximum safe exploitation of Directed Energy (DE) for national defense.
The biological sciences and Bioinformatics Associate will conduct proteomic, genomic, and metabolomic studies that identify critical biochemical or molecular changes following exposure to DE prior to or during mission operations that assists in the prediction of health degradation. The primary goal of this research is to investigate basic mechanism(s) of interactions between biology and radiation and to uncover previously unknown bioeffects of RF exposure. The successful candidate will lead research on DE systems to assist in transitioning DoD technologies and conducting research to identify the benefits, risks, and capabilities for a wide range of military radiation systems, including prediction and mitigation of bio-effects of DE on personnel and mission performance and exploitation of the bio-effects of DE. One major element will be developing an understating of the probability of injury from RF exposures.
Duties will include a working knowledge of the following research disciplines:
Genomics - Analysis of cellular deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), gene expression, and epigenetic regulation
Proteomics - Analysis of protein profiles, levels, and modifications
Metabolomics - Analysis of small molecule metabolites
Bioinformatics - Overlapping with efforts in genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, molecular bioeffects researchers also use bioinformatic methods
Immunology - Analysis of immune cell functions, cytokine expression, innate and adaptive responses, and cellular and humoral immunity
Cell culture - In vitro culturing of mammalian cells
Microscopy and Electrophysiology
In addition to their research duties, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following requirements:
The successful candidate for this position will live and work in the greater San Antonio TX metropolitan area, but they will also have occasional travel to the greater Washington DC area for periodic status reports to the overall Program Manager.
