This position will primarily support the System Wide Information Management (SWIM) Program. SWIM is a National Airspace System (NAS)-wide information system that supports Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) goals. If you want to be involved in the design and implementation of software solutions to manage the FAA's telecommunications enterprise communications and information solutions, this is the job for you!


In this position, you will be an integral member of our agile design and development teams working to design effective and intuitive web-based and mobile applications for a diverse user community across technical and business functional domains, including major U.S. Airlines. Primary responsibilities will include working with Product Owners and users to perform research, create detailed user experience specifications (including user personas), develop and conduct usability test plans, maintain and enforce a standardized UI pattern library for an enterprise web-based portal, and articulate UX concepts and solutions through wireframes and prototypes of varying fidelity. You will engage daily with FAA staff, users and technical team members to ensure design concepts are clearly understood and communicated. You will collaborate with senior technical staff to establish and execute the vision for our enterprise software solutions. Finally, you will be a part of the broader Noblis Center of Digital Excellence (CoDE), collaborating with technologists across the company to share knowledge, grow capabilities and keep current with industry practices.


  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Human Factors, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Ability and desire to work in an agile and cross functional team environment, understand team goals and generate appropriate, innovative analytical insights to drive process and experience improvement
  • Ability and desire to directly work with stakeholders to perform research, solicit needs, and develop deep knowledge of the user community
  • Superior communication skills
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas to senior leaders
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Ability to work with image editing, graphic creation, and UI layout tools: Bootstrap and responsive design concepts, Sass or Less CSS compilation tools
  • High to expert level experience with modeling and prototyping tools (Sketch + InVision, Axure, Balsamiq, Visio, etc.) with portfolio demonstrating various deliverables
  • High to expert level experience with the Adobe Creative Suite especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fireworks
  • Strong desire for exploring, evaluating and understanding new technologies
  • Strong self-organization and self-management skills, with emphasis on self-initiation and follow-through          

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with US government clients, operational components, and stakeholders
  • Experience designing and mocking up rich visualizations and dashboards, including mobile
  • Ability to work across multiple agile teams to ensure consistent UI/UX which includes prioritizing, tracking, attention to detail, follow-up and follow-through to project completion
  • Experience related to Enterprise Systems, Big Data and Analytics, and Dashboarding and Data Visualization
