Responsibilities

Configuration Management is a critical discipline supporting the FAA in its mission of aviation safety and its strategic priorities to deliver benefits through technology and infrastructure; empower and innovate with the FAA’s people; and make aviation safer and smarter. The Configuration Management Automation (CMA) program will support both National Airspace (NAS) and mission support systems to ensure business continuity and result in significant enhancements to the FAA’s configuration management (CM) system and related processes.

The scope for CMA Segment 1 is the replacement of the legacy WebCM application with a new commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) CM tool. The effort will also include the automation of the currently manual and disjoint workflows. The scope for CMA Segment 2 is much broader in that it addresses the need for a fully integrated and stream-lined process. Segment 2 will focus on issues that result from the current process being disjointed and not auditable.

The Senior Systems Engineer will:

  • Perform as part of the larger program team to support program planning and investment decisions.
  • Play a key role in the effort to update and refine FAA Enterprise Architecture products for CMA as part of the FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS) Final Investment Decision (FID) milestone.
  • Assess current system and acquisition documentation and artifacts to assist in a successful acquisition.
  • Participate in the creation of acquisition-related artifacts and support the evaluation of contractor proposals.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree and 8+ years of relevant professional experience, including enterprise architecture.
  • Multiple years experience supporting technical government acquisitions
  • Deep understanding of modern IT architectures
  • Familiarity with system archicture diagrams and notation such as the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF)
  • Experience with system architectures, tools and their application
  • Familiarity with AMS processes and artifacts such as Program Requirements, Concepts of Operation, and Business Case Formulation and Analysis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Experience directly interfacing with government clients up through senior-level staff to help achieve their objectives by providing management, technical and programmatic support
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple program components and activities simultaneously, independently or as a member or a working group
  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, applicants must be U.S. Citizens

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of FAA Systems Engineering Manual and/or SE best practices
  • Experience with writing requirements in the federal government space
  • Familiarity with FAA AMS
  • Experience with Agile software development or the procurement of agile systems
