Responsibilities

The FAA’s National Airspace System (NAS) Enterprise Services Group (AJW‑17) serves as the Office of Primary Responsibility for second-level engineering and operational support of enterprise-level systems in the NAS. Providing 24/7 technical assistance, AJW‑17 ensures vital NAS systems operate safely, reliably, and securely by managing trouble tickets, troubleshooting system failures, resolving performance issues, and overseeing lifecycle maintenance activities. AJW-17 integrates cybersecurity standards, configuration control, and enterprise architecture compliance into FAA infrastructure modernization efforts, aligning technology implementation with strategic resilience, security, and mission assurance objectives.

Noblis is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Systems Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for implementing security requirements, validating them through test activities, and deploying solutions to meet mission objectives. The Systems Engineer will install, configure, and maintain system infrastructures, with a focus on Windows Server environments and VMware platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system hardening, cybersecurity, and hands-on support for enterprise systems and networks. You will play a key role in ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of our IT operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and decompose system, service, and network architectures and requirements
  • Design and plan system implementation through the development of detailed implementation plans, ensuring alignment with architectures.
  • Assist with the testing and validation of security requirements by coordinating and running functional, performance, and security tests.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments and VMware ESXi hosts.
  • Provide support for a variety of technologies including Windows Operating Systems, VMware, and MySQL.
  • Implement and enforce security controls and hardening measures based on industry best practices (e.g., CIS Benchmarks).
  • Maintain system baselines and manage configuration items in accordance with organizational policies and standards.
  • Apply systems engineering principles to identify and mitigate cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
  • Support secure data transfers between networks of different classification levels, including understanding of transmission protocols and cross-domain solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations during project review meetings and engineering discussions.
  • Ensure systems are patched and compliant with Windows security best practices.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Internet Protocol (IP), DNS, and general network configuration.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, and knowledge-sharing materials.
  • Clearly communicate complex technical concepts in both written and verbal formats.
  • Respond to ad hoc technical issues and participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Windows Server and VMware ESXi installation, configuration, and support.
  • Knowledge of MySQL database support and administration.
  • Experience with system hardening and compliance with security policies and benchmarks (e.g., CIS).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and secure system design.
  • Strong understanding of IP networking, DNS, and protocol configurations.
  • Ability to effectively document technical procedures and deliver presentations.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • U.S. citizen or green card permanent resident (lived in the U.S. for 3+ years)

Senior-level 

  • Minimum of 20+ years’ experience with Bachelor’s degree in engineering (systems, civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, avionics, environmental, or computer). 
  • Master's degree in related field may be substituted for bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience. 
  • PhD in related field may be substituted for bachelor’s degree and 7 years’ experience. 
  • Compensation Ranges: D.C. and N.J. -  $124,000 - $193,750

Mid-level 

  • Minimum of 6+ years’ experience with Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (systems, civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, avionics, environmental, or computer). 
  • Master's Degree in related field may be substituted for Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years’ experience. 
  • PhD in related field may be substituted for Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years’ experience. 
  • Compensation Ranges: D.C. and N.J. - $93,200 - $145,550

Desired Qualifications

  • Industry certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, VMware VCP, Security+, CISSP, or similar.
  • Experience working with systems in classified or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with cross-domain data transfer and multi-network environments.

Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked. While monetary compensation is important, it's just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package.

USD $93,200.00 - USD $193,750.00 /Yr.
