The FAA’s National Airspace System (NAS) Enterprise Services Group (AJW‑17) serves as the Office of Primary Responsibility for second-level engineering and operational support of enterprise-level systems in the NAS. Providing 24/7 technical assistance, AJW‑17 ensures vital NAS systems operate safely, reliably, and securely by managing trouble tickets, troubleshooting system failures, resolving performance issues, and overseeing lifecycle maintenance activities. AJW-17 integrates cybersecurity standards, configuration control, and enterprise architecture compliance into FAA infrastructure modernization efforts, aligning technology implementation with strategic resilience, security, and mission assurance objectives.

Noblis is looking for a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Network Engineer to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure and optimized network infrastructures. This role involves collaboration with architects, hands-on installation and configuration of network devices, and adherence to federal security standards, including FAA guidelines. The ideal candidate will be adept at troubleshooting, documentation, and ensuring network performance meets established service levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in defining and documenting technical network requirements in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with network architects to optimize network design and performance.
  • Install, configure, and maintain firewalls, routers, and switches using defense-in-depth security techniques in compliance with U.S. Federal standards and baselines.
  • Implement and manage an enterprise AAA (Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting) identity solution to centralize network device access control.
  • Secure network device configurations to align with FAA and other U.S. Federal security guidelines and baselines (e.g., CIS Benchmarks, STIG).
  • Upgrade network equipment configurations to enable new features and capabilities as needed.
  • Assemble and prepare equipment, cables, adapters, and other hardware components for site installations.
  • Perform on-site installation and deployment of network equipment.
  • Develop and maintain detailed network documentation, including network diagrams, standards, specifications, and operational procedures.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve network, hardware, and software issues efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and maintain network performance to meet or exceed Service Level Agreements (SLAs), providing second- and third-level technical support.
  • Conduct network modeling and analysis to evaluate performance and capacity; recommend enhancements to meet organizational needs.
  • Respond to ad hoc technical issues and participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with installation, configuration, and maintenance of network devices (firewalls, routers, switches).
  • Strong understanding of defense-in-depth network security principles and compliance with U.S. Federal standards.
  • Familiarity with FAA security requirements and industry baselines such as CIS Benchmarks and STIGs.
  • Knowledge of enterprise AAA solutions for centralized authentication and authorization.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve network hardware and software issues.
  • Experience with network documentation and diagramming tools.
  • Ability to perform site installations and hardware assembly.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with architects, engineers, and other technical teams.
  • U.S. citizen or green card permanent resident (lived in the U.S. for 3+ years)

Mid-level

  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience with Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (systems, civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, avionics, environmental, or computer).
  • Master's Degree in related field may be substituted for Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years’ experience.
  • PhD in related field may be substituted for Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years’ experience.
  • Compensation Ranges: D.C and N.J. - $93,200 - $145,550

Desired Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in federal government or regulated environments.
