Responsibilities

Noblis MSD’s mission is to support the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWCPD) and their missions’ to enable research, development, test and evaluation, acquisition, engineering, systems integration, in-service and fleet engineering with cybersecurity, comprehensive logistics, and life-cycle savings. Noblis MSD is seeking a Software Engineer / Systems Engr. To work as part of a small team developing and testing control system software.

The Engineer will support the design, development, maintenance, and delivery of Control System PLC and HMI software. The selected candidate will be interfacing with U.S. Navy civilian software and systems engineers, support contractors, U.S. Navy ships force, OEMs, and engineering management. The selected candidate will contribute to all aspects of the software/system life cycle including but not limited to requirements definition, software development, documentation, testing, deployment, support, and maintenance.

  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of the Steering Control System software and hardware.
  • Design, develop, test, install, and maintain Steering Control System PLC and HMI software and supporting system hardware.
  • Design/develop system software in a variety of languages including C, C++,C# and Rockwell Automation PLC.
  • Work with Microsoft Visual Studio and version control (e.g. Git)
  • Identify and document software and system related problems
  • Resolve software problems through debugging, research, and investigation
  • Provide distance and onsite support of software problems
  • Prepare and maintain new and/or existing software requirements
  • Prepare and maintain new and/or existing testing plans and procedures
  • Write, review, and maintain technical documentation such as user manuals, product specifications, and training materials
  • Perform system software/hardware testing related to shipboard Control Systems and associated equipment within a lab environment
  • Setup and Lockdown the development and test environment, coordinating with other Software Developers
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve system software/hardware issues associated with lab equipment and systems components
  • Wiring of hardware and components such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), equipment racks and control panels
  • Participate in special projects as required.

 

This position provides room for growth within the Navy program, with added engineering/technical responsibilities once acclimated with the program and test lab processes.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • One or more years of professional experience with one (1) or more years of experience in software development in engineering and/or control system development
  • Successful applicants must either have an active government DoD Secret security clearance or the ability to receive the security clearance upon position acceptance
  • Successful applicants must have recent experience developing non-web based systems using C, C++,  C# and/or PLC ladder logic.

 

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in software development using C, C++, C#, or PLC ladder logic
  • Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio or similar development environments to develop, compile, and debug source code in C++/CLI, Managed C++, and/or C#
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, and installing software and supporting software products
  • Experience writing, reviewing, and maintaining technical documentation such as but not limited to new or existing software requirements, user manuals, product specifications, and training materials
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting networked, IP-based systems both onsite and via distance support

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive a security clearance upon position acceptance
  • CompTia Security+ (PLUS) Certified highly desired
  • Window OS Certified highly desired 
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Salary at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, and clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is provided within the posting and are based on full time status. Part time staff receive a prorated salary based on regularly scheduled hours. The estimated minimum and maximum displayed represents the broadest range for this position (inclusive of high geographic and high clearance requirements), and is just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package for employees.
