Technology and threats evolve rapidly in today’s ever-changing environment. DHS S&T supports basic and applied research, development, testing and evaluation (RDT&E) that provides the tools and knowledge products to support the Homeland Security missions of DHS components and first responders. DHS S&T supports these RDT&E activities at a range of performer and government facilities, including DHS S&T-run research facilities across the U.S.

This position provides RDT&E Engineer support, working with government T&E project managers, to Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) Test and Evaluation (T&E) Programs and Projects, in operational and laboratory settings, with the purpose of developing C-UAS technology systems for DHS component customers.

Role functions may include:

  • Assisting Program Managers (PMs) to test, evaluate, and assess C-UAS technology in operational and laboratory settings, integrating systems from commercial and government off-the-shelf component sensors.
  • Providing hands-on set-up and operations of C-UAS systems for demonstration.
  • Working hands-on with customers to build C-UAS systems in the laboratory and support development to customer specs.
  • Assisting with gathering and validating of requirements, development of test strategies and test plans.
  • Assisting in test execution, data collection and analysis and drafting/editing of test reports.
  • Drafting and editing test reports and other technical documents.
  • Developing project documents such as charters and project management plans, weekly and monthly reports, and other reporting documents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience or Associate’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in government test and evaluation of technology in laboratory setting.
  • Interdisciplinary engineering skillset and systems engineering experience required.
  • Up to 25% travel required.
  • Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a high pressure, fast paced atmosphere.
  • Demonstrated experience assisting the development and execution of Testing & Evaluation (T&E) strategies and drafting reporting documents.
  • Demonstrated experience working in technical and operational integrated product teams.
  • Mechanical and electrical engineering experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • DHS suitability (Secret clearance preferred).
