Technology and threats evolve rapidly in today’s ever-changing environment. In response, DHS S&T was established by Congress to provide innovative scientific and technical solutions to the nation's homeland security challenges. Within S&T, the Office of National Laboratories (ONL) develops and utilizes a coordinated network of DHS and Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories to deliver enduring capabilities vital to DHS and the national homeland security mission. ONL manages strategic, operational, maintenance and expansion efforts for ONL laboratory capabilities across five U.S. states (Alabama, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey and New York), requiring a range of capabilities to support these efforts.

This role provides support to security operations at DHS facilities. The role is expected to support the Special Security Officer (SSO) across multiple domains, including policy, information security, and physical security.

  • Maintaining up to date records on security processing of personnel.

  • Creating and maintaining security guidelines and other related documentation to reflect current DHS policies.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert on all security policies within DHS and the federal government as a whole.

  • Providing general security trainings as well as more specialized job-specific security trainings as needed.
  • Managing the operation of secured spaces used for the review and discussion of classified materials and topics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or Associate’s degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Top Secret-level Security Clearance with the ability to obtain DHS access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) and DHS Suitability

Desired Qualifications:

  • Programmatic or management experience supporting DoD and/or DHS components (e.g., TSA, CBP, FPS, CISA, CWMD, USCG, ICE).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team-oriented environment, demonstrate teamwork and initiative, and function productively in the face of new assignments and the re-prioritization of existing assignments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with DHS and federal government regulations governing the handling and storage of sensitive and classified information.
  • Experience training law enforcement or other security personnel
  • Strong communication and writing skills, targeting both technical and non-technical audiences.
