Noblis MSD’s mission is to support the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWCPD) and their missions’ to enable research, development, test and evaluation, acquisition, engineering, systems integration, in-service and fleet engineering with cybersecurity, comprehensive logistics, and life-cycle savings.  Currently we are looking to hire a Technical Writer.


The Technical Writer will be: 

  • Subject matter expert with the U.S. Navy on surface fleet maintenance policies and procedures for Hull, Mechanical, & Electrical (HM&E) systems, particularly technical data, which is recorded information regardless of format, such as manuals or drawings of a scientific or technical nature.
  • Develop moderately complex technical information, prepare written text and illustrations, and layout and organize technical documentation.
  • Develop technical documentation in Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, and in SGML using Arbortext Editor for the Navy Publishing Application (NPA) Contenta system.
  • Research and interpret design reports, drawings, equipment procedures, and test specifications.
  • Write analytical and interpretive technical literature and procedures.
  • Communicate with engineers and other personnel for information gathering.
  • Perform Quality Assurance reviews.


We are looking for candidates with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or Journalism and 3 years of related experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Secret Clearance 
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in the planning and preparation of various types of technical documentation on Naval Ship Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E), Electronic and Weapons Handling Systems and Equipment along with experience in the detailed information search and interpretation of technical data in the preparation of technical documentation.
  • Prior experience working on U.S. Navy and/or other DoD programs preferred. 
  • Familiarity with Military Documentation Standards (MILSTDS)
  • Must possess a strong background Microsoft Word and Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
