Noblis is looking for interns for our 2023 Summer Internship Program!

Our 2023 Program will be held in a hybrid work environment; participants will telework many days, but must be in the local area to travel to an in-person facility for certain projects, meetings, and collaborative assignments.

Project Description

  • Participate in the Noblis Summer Internship Program.  This is a Summer Intern Position from 31 May 2023 until 4 August 2023.
  • This position is to work with Noblis to support the 1) Department of Defense’s (DoD) Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Program; 2) Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office (CWMD), or 3) DHS Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate.
    • The DoD CTR Program is implemented by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and works cooperatively with allies and partners to prevent the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and eliminate chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats to the U.S., allies, and partners.
    • The DHS CWMD Office leads DHS efforts and coordinates with domestic and internaitonal partners to safeguard the United States against CBRN and health security threats. Potential opportunities include supporting the Strategy, Plans, and Policy (SPP) Directorate or the Information Analysis Directorate (IAD).
  • SPP Mission: Coordinates and develops DHS policy, strategy, and plans to counter CBRN and health security threats affecting the United States.
  • IAD Mission: Leads DHS intelligence support, biosurveillance, and data integration to assess, warn, and share information countering WMD and health security threats and incidents affecting the United States.
    • DHS S&T is the research and development arm of the DHS which conducts basic and applied research, developing, testing, and evaluating activities that strengthen the nation’s overall security. Potential opportunities include supporting the International Cooperative Program Office (ICPO) and Probabilistic Analysis for National Threats Hazards and Risks (PANTHR) program.
  • ICPO Mission: Develops partnerships with foreign governments and international organizations that enhance scientific and technical knowledge for homeland security purposes.
  • PANTHR Mission: Provides accurate, useful, and defensible knowledge and tools to stakeholders to enable aggregated risk-informed decision making for defense against WMD threats to the homeland.

Client Engagement

  • Learn about the Noblis business development lifecycle, processes, tools, and account structure.
  • Build a productive relationship with clients and understand their structure, organization, mission, and goals.

Qualifications

What We Need From You: 

  • A GPA of 3.3 or higher  
  • US Citizenship, and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD or DHS clearance
  • Be a rising undergraduate senior or current Masters student, with a focus on relevant topics areas (e.g., biodefense, nonproliferation, international security, policy, international relations, computer science, etc.)
  • Ability to relocate to the DC metro area and access on-site facility as needed
  • Excellent communication, written, and organizational skills
  • An interest or skill in any of the following:
    • Life and chemical/biological sciences 
    • Nonproliferation/counterproliferation
    • Familiarity with biological/chemical threats of natural, accidental, or deliberate origin
    • International security or international relations
    • Policy analysis and legislative affairs (e.g., MPP/MPA)
    • Nation-state-level and regional WMD threats
    • Arms control and nonproliferation agreements approaches, and objectives
    • Data science, computer science, or modeling
