The HM&E Damage Control Specialist will work as part of the Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT) resolving mission critical equipment and systems issues for ship survivability and safety systems, as well as, training of Ship’s Force personnel in support of the Refueling Complex Overhaul (RCOH) onboard USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN 74).


  • Conduct material condition assessments and document condition of vital HM&E specalized equipment and complex systems. Managing restoration of firefighting, flooding and Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) systems to the required readiness condition. 
  • Oversee and/or perform Alterations Equivalent to Repair (AER) and other modernization configurations to HM&E equipment as required. 
  • Provide On-the-Job (OJT) training to ship's force personnel in support of HM&E equipment to enhance Sailor Level of Knowledge (LOK). 
  • Review Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) system configuration change documents to ensure all HM&E equipment modernization configuration changes reflect updates. 
  • Conduct Quality Assurance (QA) reviews during and upon completion of required equipment restoration efforts to ensure equipment and systems are returned to a fully operational status. 
  • Provide quality assurance inspections and installation tracking of components as required.
  • Conduct system training for the Fleet on the operation and maintenance of systems.
  • Conduct machinery and systems inspections and certifications when required and provide system reports (including deficiencies and recommendations) to Navy program representatives.
  • Perform system and equipment operability tests.


  • 8+ years of naval service; preferably experience on CVN aircraft carriers.
  • 8+ years’ experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of naval or marine propulsion hull, mechanical, or electrical systems is highly desired, including:
    Experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, diagrams, or other mechanical technical data pertaining to the construction and operation of naval hull, mechanical, and electrical equipment.
  • An Associates Degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to 2 years of related experience.Preference for a Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • Quantified, specialized skills such as, related rtade qualifications, certifications of training for complex shipboard systems, equipment and components may be substituted for up to 2 years of related experience for each major qualification or specialized skill.
  • Candidate shoud hae knowlege of NAVSEA Standard Items (NSIs). 
  • 2+ years’ experience in a position of team leader or supervisor of subordinate work groups is desired.
  • Candidate will be required to complete the OSHA 7615 (shipyard employment) 10-hour training course and Nuclear Awareness training to support non-nuclear work on nuclear vessels.
  • Active SECRET security clearance required.
